Daniel and Matt’s Journey with Hyper
“When we first came to Hyper, we weren’t tech founders. We were senior AFL coaches with a passion for developing leaders, running a small mentoring and leadership consultancy on the side. The challenge was that our business relied entirely on our time, making it difficult to scale while continuing our coaching careers. Like many founders, we had a strong understanding of the problem we wanted to solve, but limited experience with AI, product development, or how large language models (LLMs) could be used to create a scalable solution.
Working alongside the Hyper team, we challenged our original concept and reshaped it into an AI-first user experience. Rather than simply digitising our existing consultancy, we developed a platform that could deliver personalised mentorship and leadership support at scale.
One of the biggest hurdles early on was understanding everything required to turn an idea into a real startup. Together, we worked through product-market fit, customer validation, commercial strategy, fundraising, and product roadmapping. The frameworks and guidance we received gave us the confidence to make informed decisions at every stage.
From there, we prepared the business for investment. That work resulted in us raising close to $400,000 in initial capital, providing the runway to build the product and accelerate growth. As the business evolved, we also restructured the company for scale. We brought on a full-time CEO, Kim, formerly the high-performance manager for Oscar Piastri, allowing Daniel to remain focused on his role as a senior AFL coach while Matt continued in his position as Head of Football Strategy and Projects at the Hawthorn Football Club. Today, our business is live on the App Store.
Looking back, our journey has been about far more than building software. It’s been about taking an idea that started as a consultancy and transforming it into a scalable AI business with the right team, capital, and foundations to grow. This couldn’t have happened without the guidance and support of the Hyper team for the very beginning.”
