Who are you and what is Spark?

I’m Wasim Miah, founder of Spark. We help people understand whether financial products align with their values.

Spark brings clearer information to decisions across savings, mortgages, insurance and investments. The goal is to help someone see where their money may go and what a provider’s choices mean, so they can make a more informed decision.

What made you question the way financial products were compared?

It struck me that we could find detailed information about the origin of a coffee or the ingredients in a meal, yet understanding what happened to our savings was much harder. People who cared about climate, community or faith still had to work through scattered claims and dense product information.

That gap mattered because money has an impact long after it leaves an account. I wanted to make those consequences easier to understand without expecting every customer to become a financial researcher.

How did you want Spark to make the decision clearer?

We began by bringing ethical and values-based information into a comparison experience people could actually use. The platform is intended to help someone explore relevant products, understand the factors behind them and identify options aligned with the issues they care about.

Building trust is central to the idea. The information has to be understandable, appropriately sourced and careful about the line between useful comparison and personal financial advice.

Where is Spark today?

Spark secured letters of intent before launch and has taken the concept into significant international rooms. We showcased the business at Web Summit Qatar, presented to governors of Malaysia’s central bank and were invited to a Royal Dinner hosted by the King of Malaysia.

Those moments helped validate the wider interest in ethical finance. The work now is converting that interest into a useful product and a trusted commercial model. For me, success means making the impact of money visible enough that people can act on their values with confidence.
