Who are you and what is StatDoctor?

I’m Dr Anu Ganugapati, the founder and CEO of StatDoctor. We are Australia’s first locum doctor marketplace, connecting doctors directly with hospitals and clinics.

Doctors can see available shifts and rates, manage their credentials, apply directly and receive payment without an agency sitting in the middle. Hospitals get a faster and more transparent way to fill essential workforce gaps.

What showed you the locum system needed to change?

I experienced the problem from inside emergency medicine. Locum work meant late-night agency calls, changing rates and repeatedly emailing the same credentials.

Hospitals and doctors wanted to work together. The process between them was expensive and unnecessarily difficult. Agencies could add significant fees while controlling the information and relationship. I kept asking why more of the process had not been automated and why doctors could not manage their work directly.

How did you build a startup alongside hospital life?

I was working full-time and had limited startup experience, so I needed a process that respected the reality of clinical work. We researched both sides of the marketplace, pressure-tested the assumptions and shaped the MVP around the most important workflows.

That work helped us build a strong waitlist, become investor-ready and launch with genuine demand. I have since raised $500,000 and moved into the business full-time.

Where is StatDoctor today?

StatDoctor now works with more than 70 healthcare facilities and over 500 doctors across Australia. The platform has helped facilities save more than $200,000 in agency fees.

Doctors can browse shifts across multiple states, see rates upfront, store verified credentials and manage work through the app. Version 3 has added professional networking, messaging and a doctor-focused content feed.

The ambition remains practical: remove avoidable cost and admin from locum work, then give doctors and healthcare providers a direct relationship they can manage on their own terms.
